Each year the University provides information to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for students who were assessed qualified tuition and student fees during the previous tax year. Students will be mailed a 1098-t form by the end of January 2018 which provides notice of the information being reported to the IRS for 2017. 1098-t data will also be available online in MyLeo before the end of January. Students who do not have a valid social security number or Tax ID number on file with the University Registrar will not have a 1098-t form automatically generated. This may affect the ability of a student or parent to claim a tax deduction or credit associated with education expenses.
If you have a valid social security number or Tax ID but have not provided that information to the University Registrar - please contact that office at REGOFC at tamuc.edu<mailto:REGOFC at tamuc.edu> for assistance with the update process or go to http://www.tamuc.edu/admissions/registrar/documents/PersonalIdentification.pdf for the Request for Personal Identification Changes form. Completed forms should be returned to the University Registrar's Office.
Please provide copies of your driver's license or other government issued identification and your social security card or tax ID with the completed form. The Registrar needs this information to validate your identity and it provides supporting documentation for the data provided in the change form.
You may deliver completed forms and documents to the Registrar's Office in the One Stop Shop or you can mail that information to the University Registrar at:
Texas A&M University-Commerce
Attn: Registrar's Office
P.O. Box 3011
Commerce, TX 75429
Completed forms and supporting documents can also be faxed to the Registrar's Office at 903-886-5888. Please do not email this information to the Registrar's Office. Email is not a secure form of communication and should not be used for transmission of confidential personal data.
Please contact our office at Student.Accounts at tamuc.edu<mailto:Student.Accounts at tamuc.edu> if you have any questions about the 1098-t process.
