Homecoming Committee Applications

Being a part of the Homecoming Committee provides the opportunity to work with other students across campus while putting together a fun-filled week of celebrations that focus on our Lion Pride! Committee members are required to attend a weekly committee meeting and volunteer during the week's festivities.

  *   Requirements include a 2.5 GPA and demonstrated leadership potential
  *   Commitment to the Homecoming Committee is February 2017-November 2017
  *   Applications must be submitted by February 15th at 5pm.
  *   Interviews will be held at a later date. (After applications close, the top applicants selected by the committee representatives will be contacted to schedule a interview.
  *   The final committee selections will be announced by Friday, March 3rd.

Golden Leo Application

The Golden Leos are a service organization known as the "golden treasures" of campus. Established in Fall of 1978 by then President, F.H. McDowell, the Golden Leos serve at the discretion of the President's Office. The membership criteria includes needing a GPA of 2.75 or above, having completed 12 credit hours at Texas A&M University-Commerce, and demonstrated leadership potential. Applicants must attend an information session (options below).

William L. Mayo Speaker Series Presents: Laverne Cox

Laverne Cox explores how the intersections of race, class, and gender uniquely affect the lives of trans women of color. Laverne draws from her own personal narrative to share how she has been able to navigate the world and all its challenges. From growing up in Mobile, Alabama, raised by a single mother in a Christian family, to attending college in New York City to pursue a career as an actress, to finally finding the courage to step into the womanhood she always knew at heart was her destiny, Cox tells the story of the unique challenges along her journey to womanhood, professional achievement, self-acceptance, and love. Renown American education historian and public school champion Diane Ravitch. Dr. Ravitch will deliver the keynote address at 11 a.m. in Ferguson Auditorium. The focus of the presentation, and the panel discussion to immediately follow, will be on her book, “Reign of Error,” answering the question: What went wrong with public education in America?

Her blog, Diane Ravitch’s blog<https://dianeravitch.net/>, has received over 20 million page views. Her recent blog postings cover topics such as No Child Left Behind, standardized testing, public school privatization and voucher programs. Ravitch offers solutions for these and other educational hot topic items.
