[Students] Financial Aid Recipients: End of Fall Reminders!

This Fall 2017 semester  has quickly come to a close.
Finals are complete, grades will start posting shortly.
As you review your grades take a few minutes to also review your financial aid history?
This is the perfect time to do a bit of financial aid housekeeping.

If you are graduating? Congratulations!!
Review your loan history at studentloans.gov/ Tools and Resources/My Financial Aid History
* Want to know how much you have borrowed over time?
Here you will see all the federal student loans and federal Pell Grant received at each and
every school you ever attended regardless of how long ago these happen, regardless of the
name(s) you have used. It's all in one neat section.
* Want to know your repayment options?
Studentloans.gov / Managing Repayment / Repaying Your Loans is a great start.
Here you will find such topics:
* Loan Servicers; the agencies that will handle your loan(s) after graduation
* Understanding Repayment: when do you start repayment
* Repayment Plans; the various options available based on your loan history and your unique
cases
* Deferment/Forberance/Forgiveness/Cancellation/ etc.
* Exit Counseling: a requirement you need to complete as part of your responsibility as a
student borrower
And, of course, Understanding Default.
* What it is?
* When it happens?
* Why it happens?
And the most important topic how to avoid default!!

If you are not yet graduating, this is also a good time to review your full loan history to plan
ahead:
Undergraduate and Graduate student borrowers
* Know how much you borrowed at each school you ever attended
* Know how much you borrowed overall and how much borrowing power you will have
* Check out the Repayment Estimator for average payments based on how much debt you
have to date.
Student loans are no different from other types of consumer loans or credit card purchases.
Know your balance, how much you owe, payment plans, interest rates.

Undergraduate students pursuing your 1st bachelor's degree

If you received a Pell Grant at any school, at any time, during your college career a visit to Financial
Aid History at NSLDS is good start. Here you will find
* How much Federal Pell Grant you received at each school
* How much Federal Pell Grant you have remaining
