Location: Packet available in the Global Programs office
Organization: TAMU-C Special Programs Study Abroad
This is an invitation for you to apply for a $1,000 internal scholarship and participate in a British Media, Language & Culture class June 1-11, to take place in London and Lincoln, England. The class is a component of the university's QEP initiative and is organized through the Global Programs office on campus.
The group will arrive at Heathrow Airport in London on June 2 and spend the first weekend in London. We then travel north by bus to Lincoln, England for the remainder of the trip, using Lincoln as a connection point to visit the University of Lincoln, BBC radio and TV operations, the Lincoln Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon (birth and burial place of William Shakespeare) ... and several other interesting societal and cultural opportunities. It's a great learning and life experience, that comes with three hours credit but no tests to take!
One important note: immediately apply for the $1,000 scholarship to offset your cost. Your completed application is due no later than this Wednesday 4/12. See: http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/specialPrograms/internationalStudies/studyAbroad/study-abroad-documents-/GLOBAL%20PROGRAMS%20SCHOLARSHIP%20APPLICATION%20FORM.pdf
Another important note: if you're interested but don't have a passport, you would need to apply for one immediately. The class is being co-taught by Lucy Pickering in English and Tony DeMars in Mass Media. It's a great option as an elective, or it might fit into your major or minor. It is available as an undergraduate or graduate course, and it is available for three or six hours credit. It is currently on the Summer I schedule as ENG 497. If you have questions, email Dr. DeMars: Tony.DeMars at tamuc.edu<mailto:Tony.DeMars at tamuc.edu>. See the poster here: http://faculty.tamuc.edu/TDeMars/British%20class%20flyer.pdf. 1525 Legacy Gala
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: RSC Conference Rooms A, B, and C
Organization: Devin Oliver and Aubree Butts Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This semester the Interlibrary Loan department is instituting Devin Oliver and Aubree Butts, two extraordinary young student-athletes who touched the lives of many - including the students, faculty, coaches, and staff at Texas A&M University-Commerce. These two women left this world far too early. The 1525 Legacy Gala was inspired by the impact that these young ladies had on their communities, their teammates, and the University. As basketball players, Aubree and Devin served as captains for the Lion women's basketball team and wore the numbers 15 and 25, respectively. Not only were these two ladies standouts on the hardwood, but also excelled in the classroom and were involved in multiple organizations on campus including: the Freshman Leadership Class, Sophomore Year Experience, orientation leaders, and multiple national honor societies.
During last year's inaugural event, the goal of the 1525 Legacy Dinner was to raise enough funds to fully endow a scholarship that honors the legacies of these remarkable young women. That goal was obtained thanks the generosity of alumni and friends of the program. In addition to remembering Devin and Aubree, this year, we will be recognizing individuals who are currently impacting the lives of our students in a positive way. We will also hold a silent auction the night of the event. Finally, we will introduce our guests to the "1525 WAY" - which the women's basketball team uses as inspiration for service, leadership, and legacy.
To purchase tickets, sponsorships, or to make a donation, please visit our Marketplace page. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the gala and silent auction will go to the Devin Oliver and Aubree Butts Memorial Scholarship Endowment and the other 50% will go to the A&M-Commerce Women's Basketball program. From all of us at A&M-Commerce, thank you in advance for your generosity and support as we honor Devin, Aubree, and others. Please view the attached invitation and RSVP by April 10, 2017. If you have any additional questions, please contact Ray Garvin at Raymond.Garvin at tamuc.edu<mailto:Raymond.Garvin at tamuc.edu> or at 903-468-8194<tel:(903)%20468-8194>.
