The City of Commerce water plant has experienced a fire that has damaged a control board for the operation of the plant. The city has asked the community to conserve water until a damage assessment and repairs can be completed. Our campus is primarily served by wells we own, maintain, and operate. However, we do have a few buildings on city water. When we use water on campus, we pull from our water supply. But, when we irrigate a lot and other campus supplied water areas use water, we deplete our water wells to a point we supplement with city water. For this reason, we are asking our campus community to conserve water along with our community partners.
You can conserve water by drinking bottled water, monitor the length of time you wash hands, and report any leaks. For our students living on campus you can monitor and control the amount of time for showers and baths, hand wash dishes, turn off the water while you brush your teeth, and report any leaks. The campus has already taken steps to help conserve and reduce water usage by ceasing campus landscape watering and working with Campus Dinning to reduce the amount of water they use.
We will provide more information as it becomes available. We greatly appreciate all efforts to conserve and reduce water usage at this time!
