Dear University Community,

Sometimes, we receive wonderful emails presented as an image that is not accessible. Why is it important to create and send accessible emails? Blindness and other degrees of vision impairment are more common than many would think. Over 285 million people worldwide are considered to be visually impaired, with 19 million people in the US (or, 8.8% of the population over the age of 18) reporting trouble seeing, even with glasses or contact lenses. In addition 4.5% of the population are color blind, which can also be a significant impediment.

To quickly learn how to create accessible emails, the Office of Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities published 'Creating Accessible Microsoft Outlook 2010 Emails<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1erW3U7uE8w>' on YouTube.com or you may print the instructions<http://gov.texas.gov/files/disabilities/accessdocs/20-Email.pdf>.

Let's spend a little time needed to create accessible emails and make it more accessible for our university community.

Sincerely,
Lydia Harkey
