Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)
GAAD is a community-driven effort whose goal is to dedicate one day to raising the profile of and introducing the topic of digital (web, software, mobile app/device, etc.) accessibility and people with different disabilities to the broadest audience possible.
You can participate in GAAD by taking the No Mouse Challenge for at least 15 minutes<http://www.tamuc.edu/CampusLife/CampusServices/CITESupportCenter/accessibility/accessibility-hot-topic/default.aspx>.
Why is this important?
Using keyboard-only commands is a good, quick accessibility test. If a document, application or system cannot support mouseless operation it may not support assistive technology or accessibility tools.
In addition, keyboard shortcuts often allow you to more efficiently perform task. Try these shortcuts<http://www.tamuc.edu/CampusLife/CampusServices/CITESupportCenter/accessibility/accessibility-hot-topic/keyboard-shortcuts.aspx> to help you during the challenge.
What was it like to use only your keyboard?
Once you finished your challenge, tell us about your experience at accessibility at tamuc.edu<mailto:accessibility at tamuc.edu>. We'll share your experience for completing the keyboard challenge!
Happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day!
