SEPT. 25: TRAFFICKING BANNED BOOKS
2pm to 3pm, RSC Conference Room B
In 2012, Tucson Public Schools abolished the highly successful Mexican
American Studies program and publicly confiscated all of the related
books. To protest this action, a group of writers banded together to
form Librotraficante. The group started a nationwide campaign to smuggle
the banned books back into Tucson. Liana Lopez, a founding member, will
discuss Librotraficante's efforts to preserve and promote Mexican
American Studies and the social challenges faced by minorities.
Sponsored by:
Vice President for Student Access and Success, Dean of the College of
Humanities, Social Sciences & Arts Provost, Vice President of Academic
Affairs, The Libraries, and The Office of Hispanic Outreach
