Greetings students:

Recently, we informed you that the Texas A&M University-Commerce Portal Team will launch a new web system at 6 a.m. on June 4. The team is a focus group that has been creating a new myLEO portal for students.

The portal includes various new programs and features including, but not limited to, easier navigation within the portal, more detail and accurate information regarding academic, financial and campus updates, a custom messaging system and customized dashboards for user roles such as traditional student, non-traditional student and transfer student.

Some features, such as the new email, will be in effect prior to the June launch date so that students will have an opportunity to become familiar with the features in advance. The new portal will feature a Gmail platform including email, personal contacts that the user builds and a calendar for planning and organizing. The new email format will begin at 6 a.m. on May 14.

Please be aware that your email address will change, and you will need to prepare for this change immediately.

You will keep the prefix of your current email which is your first initial and last name. If the email prefix contains any numbers, they will also be in your new email address. Therefore, whatever precedes the "@" symbol will stay the same. Your new student email domain will be in the format of @leomail.tamuc.edu instead of @leo.tamu-commerce.edu. Please update your new email address with your contacts beginning May 14.

When logging into your email next week, you will see the reference link “LeoMail 2.0” next to the current LeoMail link. Click “LeoMail 2.0,” and a pop-up dialog box will generate a welcome letter from Google.

The language default is English but can be easily changed to another default if you prefer. Once your language preference has been made, select the area indicating "I accept. Continue to my account."

If you are new to the Gmail platform, you can take a tour and browse through the new email features.

You will have until Sept. 14 to transfer any stored emails before the old inbox disappears and is replaced permanently with the new format. Instructions for importing old formatted saved emails will follow this notification.

Please note that you will not receive or be able to send email from your @leo.tamu-commerce.edu after Friday, May 11. After this date, email in the old format will be READ-ONLY. Please begin cleaning out your old inbox NOW to make the transition easier for you next week.

This notification is part of a series of updates to introduce the new myLEO portal and email. The Portal Team is relying on your help to provide content for the Frequently Asked Questions forum page. Feedback is encouraged throughout the entire process.
