A&M-Commerce celebrates Honor Society Largest Induction
Commerce, TEXAS (March 21, 2012)The Texas A&M University-Commerce honor societies Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta chapters will welcome more than 100 new members this evening at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Sam Rayburn Student Center.
This will be the largest induction class for the A&M-Commerce chapters. Students are initiated on the basis of achieving a 3.5 or above GPA during their freshman year, after they complete twelve to twenty-four hours at the university.
Members of Phi Eta Sigma are also eligible to receive undergraduate and graduate scholarships that the national organization offers. The national organization awards more than $160,000 in scholarships each year.
Faculty Advisor Elva Resendez believes this opportunity for students is significant because both the size of the chapter and the quality of the freshmen student body has grown.
It has been really inspiring to see the amount of growth our organization has had. This proves that freshmen students are excelling academically and I feel this will aid to the success of our university, chapter member Rashid Lane said. Each year our university grows and I feel that new inductees to Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma are showcasing our university as one with student who are dedicated and care about learning.
Chapter president Corrie Hermann was inducted two years ago when just 19 people were selected.
I am amazed and very excited at this growth, Hermann said. Our group gives our first year students who are invited for membership a place to showcase their academic excellence as well as gives them a place where they have an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.
