New portal prepares for summer debut
The Portal Team, a focus group that has been creating a new
myLEO portal for students, would like to announce the
features of the new web system to prepare students for its
launch on Monday, June 4 at 6 a.m.
Vice President for Student Access and Success Dr. Mary
Hendrix said this new development is a wish granted for the
many students who have expressed a desire for an updated
virtual communication system and assured that their voices
are heard.
In our student forums, students have requested mobile
applications for our myLEO portal and email system as well
as a format that was more user friendly, Hendrix said.
I believe our students will be pleased that their
expressed needs will soon become a reality.
The portal includes various new programs and features
including, but not limited to, easier navigation within the
portal, more accurate information regarding academic,
financial and campus updates, a custom messaging system and
customized dashboards for user roles such as traditional
student, non-traditional student and transfer student.
Some features, such as the new email, will be running early
so that students will be able to get familiar with them
before the launch of the entire site. The new portal will
feature a Gmail platform including email, personal contacts
that the user builds and a calendar for planning and
organization. This particular feature will be available for
use on May 14 at 6 a.m. and can be accessed by choosing the
new LeoMail link on the current portal.
The Portal Team advises all students that they will have
until Sept. 14 to retrieve any stored emails before the old
inbox disappears and is replaced with the new. According to
Assistant Director of Marketing and New Media Lisa Martinez,
the team has spent hundreds of hours in the past months
developing the improved myLEO, referring to feedback from
students, faculty and staff to ensure the inclusion of both
creative and functional features.
Every week this team meets to discuss, research and make
decisions on every feature that will affect the user, she
said. I, along with others, have helped apply feedback
from students and staff from the student forums and several
student groups to create our checklist of quality and
function necessities. What we all have been waiting for
will become a reality very soon.
A series of articles and insight highlights will be made
available to introduce the new myLEO portal and email as
they are released. If you have any comments, questions or
concerns that we have not covered yet, please email them to
myLEOportal at tamuc.edu. The Portal Team is relying on your
help to provide content for the Frequently Asked Questions
forum page and feedback is encouraged.
