LEOCON 2012
LEOCON 2012 is the first science fiction/fantasy/gaming con ever held at
A&M-Commerce!
The con kicks off Saturday, April 14, 2012: 9:00-6:00, in Hall of
Languages.
Events and activities include Guests of Honor in multiple areas (see
list below), presentations, workshops, art, and a costuming context. A
competitive Magic: The Gathering game is also scheduled to begin at
10:00.
Events include:
Costume contest (even general attendees are encouraged to attend in
costume although no R or X rated because LEOCON is a family friendly
event).
Five events focusing entirely on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit (2012 is
the 75th anniversary of the publication of Tolkien's first novel, and we
have three Tolkien scholars and two roundtables).
Papers by faculty and graduate students on: Dr. Who, Revolutionary Girl
Utena, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, dystopian young adult
literature, Mormon SF authors, and SFF fandom.
Presentations and workshops by professionals on voice acting, web
comics, art and illustration, livestreaming, and fan fiction.
Readings of original works.
In a special "Family Friendly" track, we have librarians and teachers
presenting recommendations about their favorite sf and fantasy authors;
learning through gaming; learning how to do table-top gaming, and
learning about the Celtic Bardic tradition (with a performance), and
