Registration for the Spring 2012 semester has been going on for the past
few weeks. Students who are receiving financial aid and academic
advisors/ Success Coaches need to remember the following:

Courses completed with a passing grade and repeated only for purposes of
improving the GPA in the course or to meet the minimum number of hours
to qualify for financial aid will not be paid by financial aid.
Financial aid will be permitted only in such cases when the grade is not
acceptable for the degree program the student is pursuing at
A&M-Commerce.

Example 1: When financial aid IS acceptable to pay for repeating a
course

Student receives financial aid and enrolls in a course completing the
course with a C.

The course is part of the major and to be considered acceptable to the
degree the course must be completed with a B or higher.

The student needs to retake the course since the course is part of the
major and must be completed with a B or higher in order to be taken into
the degree.

Financial aid can be used to pay for repeating the course.

Example 2: When financial aid is NOT acceptable to pay for repeating a
course

Student receives financial aid and enrolls in a course completing the
course with a C.

The course is NOT part of the major and is acceptable to the degree with
a letter grade of C.

The student wants to retake the course to see if they receive a better
grade though the higher grade is not required to be accepted towards the
degree.

Financial aid cannot be used to pay for repeating the course in this
example.

This is a friendly reminder.

"Most business men generally are so busy coping with immediate and
piecemeal matters that there is a lamentable tendency to let the "long
run" or future take care of itself. We often are so busy "putting out
fires," so to speak, that we find it difficult to do the planning that
would prevent those fires from occurring in the first place. As a
prominent educator has expressed it, Americans generally "spend so much
time on things that are urgent that we have none left to spend on those
that are important."
