The National Orientation Directors Association held its Annual Region IV
Conference in College Station, TX February 18-20, 2011. Region IV
encompasses the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and
Kansas.
The Texas A&M-Commerce orientation staff team attended this event and I
am very happy to share with the University community the highlights and
recognition these individuals received so that if they are in your
classes, departments or organizations you join me in congratulating them
as they truly represented Texas A&M University-Commerce and definitely
made our institution stand out at the conference.
* Student Leadership Award: Ms. Adria Green, Political Science
major from Dallas, was recognized as the recipient of the Student
Leadership Award for Region IV. This award is given annually to two
outstanding students (one from a community college and one from a
university) based on a review by the awards selection committee who
review nominations from among all institution's orientation programs.
Adria currently serves as a Student Coordinator of Orientation.
* Undergraduate Case Study Competition: Texas A&M
University-Commerce took one of the top prizes in this competition. The
team composed of Christopher Hall, Bridgette Price, Brittany Whitaker,
Adria Green, and Madris Hall was recognized as the "Best Problem
Solving" team from among 20 teams representing member institutions.
* Delegation Award: Each institution's delegation at the
conference gets to cast one vote toward selecting the award for the
"Most Spirited Award" which awarded to the delegation that is believed
to best represent NODA's and their school's spirit and values the best.
This is awarded not just on being loudest and most cheerful, but by the
quality and level of participation and contribution throughout the
conference. Texas A&M University-Commerce was honored by its peers with
the award for 2011.
* Outstanding Advisor/Director Award: At the regional
conference the organization also acknowledges and recognizes an
orientation professional. This year, Ms. Hollie Smith received the
accolade. Ms. Smith currently serves as the Director of Orientation at
Stephen F. Austin State University and is a graduate student and Ph.D.
candidate in the College of Education and Human Services at Texas A&M
University-Commerce.
* Educational Sessions: A key component to any educational and
professional conference is the presentation of new and innovative
practices, theories and information. Texas A&M University-Commerce was
privileged in having three conference proposal be accepted and the
following team members had the opportunity to present and lead the
