Converging Histories: America and Britain, 1960-1970
The Honors College, Alpha Chi Honor Society, and the Department of
Literature and Languages cordially invite you to attend a presentation
by Professor Laurence Raw of Baskent University (Ankara, Turkey) on
"Converging Histories: America and Britain, 1960-1970." Professor Raw
will be talking about the "Swinging Sixties," the Beatles, the Angry
Young Men movement, student unrest in the United States and Great
Britain as a result of the Vietnam War, and will be showing film clips
or images from the period.

Time: 2:00 p.m.
Laurence Raw teaches in the English Department at Baskent University, in
Ankara, Turkey. He is currently a Fleur Cowles Fellow at the Harry
Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Austin. The author of books on
Ridley Scott (director of Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator,
Hannibal, Black Hawk Down), Turkish films and their relationship to
Hollywood cinema, and numerous essays on filmed adaptations of works by
Henry James and Nathaniel Hawthorne, Professor Raw has recently
co-edited (with Jim Welsh and Dennis Cutchins), a two-volume anthology
of essays on the pedagogy of adaptation (Scarecrow Press, 2010). He is
currently working on a book on character actors in Hollywood horror and
science fiction films (1930-1960).
