[Students] Peer Mentoring Program Opportunities: Application deadline extended

The application deadline for applications has been extended to Friday, January 29th!  Thank you to those who have already submitted completed applications. We would like to get this program up and running as soon as possible!

 


Peer Mentoring Program Opportunities 
with Student Disability Resources and Services

 

Student Disability Resources and Services (SDRS) would like to invite you to apply to be a part of a new peer mentoring program that links experienced students with students that are new to Texas A&M University-Commerce and the office of Student Disability Resources and Services.  Through this program, you will provide students with strategies and connections to resources to assist them in navigating the many new experiences they have during their first year at the university.

 

As a peer mentor, you will have the opportunity to tap into the following important and advantageous opportunities:

Ø  Gain broad leadership skills

Ø  Be eligible to obtain letters of reference from the SDRS coordinator and a counselor in the counseling center

Ø  Be eligible to earn community service hours

Ø  Develop a network of contacts and connections

Ø  Advance your communication skills

Ø  Use your knowledge to enhance the academic/social experiences of your peers

Ø  Receive training and assistance on an on-going basis

No previous mentoring experience is necessary!  We are looking for students in all majors who meet the qualifications listed in the mentor application which is available on the SDRS website, http://web.tamu-commerce.edu/studentLife/campusServices/studentDisabilityResourcesAndServices/default.aspx .  Please respond by returning the attached application on or before Friday, January 22, 2009 to be eligible for the selection process.
