I am excited to announce two opportunities for undergraduates involved
with research or creative activities. These funds are designed to
assist students as they work on their project and to travel to present
their scholarly work. The two programs are distinct and separate
applications are required. This grant competition is competitive and
applications will be reviewed by a committee of professors. If you have
any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Undergraduate Grant Competition
The Texas A&M University-Commerce Undergraduate Grant Program offers
support for research and creative activities. The Undergraduate Grant
Program is sponsored by the Provost for Academic Affairs and the
Vice-President for Student Access and Success. Its primary purpose is to
assist undergraduate students who may require funding as they pursue
research or creative activities.
Funds can be used for the purchase of equipment, software licenses,
printing, postage, data searches, and data collection. These funds can
not be used to pay student wages or for travel.
To apply, students must submit a proposal that includes the methodology
to be used, expected outcomes, and funding requirements. It is
acceptable for students to submit an Honors Thesis proposal for this
purpose (although proposals should be no longer than 10 pages). Please
note: It is not a requirement that the proposed research be attached to
an Honors Thesis. All proposals need to include sections on expected
outcomes and fund utilization. Expected outcomes include (but are not
limited to): a conference presentation, an exhibition of one's creative
work, completion of an undergraduate Honors thesis, and/or a
publication.
The proposal must be readable and well-organized, and give sufficient
details about what the project intends to accomplish, procedures for
accomplishing the goal(s), clear statement of rationale for these
procedures, realistic budget information, and clear time lines for
completing the project. The proposed project should demonstrate
intellectual merit, and contribute to artistic, or scholarly, or
literary creativity.
Interested individuals should submit a hard copy of their proposal, and
an application form (see attachment) including signature of faculty
advisor to the Office of the Provost by Friday October 1st. In
addition, an electronic copy of the grant request should be sent to Dr.
Ray Green (Raymond_green at tamu-commerce.edu).
Undergraduate Travel Grant Competition
The Texas A&M University-Commerce Undergraduate Travel Grant Program
provides funding for undergraduate students presenting their research at
a conference. The Undergraduate Travel Grant Program is sponsored by
the Provost for Academic Affairs and the Vice-President for Student
Access and Success.
These funds can only be used for travel to an academic conference at
which a student is presenting their work. Verification of the
applicant's role (for example, a formal acceptance letter; the relevant
page of conference program) must be documented. If the applicant has not
received confirmation, an explanation must be provided. All awards, even
if approved by the committee, will not be granted or paid until a
confirmation document is received.
Grants are competitive and are awarded based upon availability of
funding. Grant awards are application specific and can not be
transferred from one event/location to another without prior approval of
the Office of the Provost.
To apply, students must submit a completed application form and
verification of their work's acceptance at the conference/professional
proceedings. The application form is not complete without their
advisor's signature.
Interested individuals should submit a hard copy of their application
(see attachment) to the Office of the Provost by Friday October 1st,
2010. Additionally, an electronic copy of the application should be
sent to Dr. Ray Green (Raymond_Green at tamu-commerce.edu).
