[Students] Chi Sigma Iota

Chi Sigma Iota is the international honor society for those of us
working towards developing identities as professional counselors. It was
created in 1985 to promote professionalism and honor among masters and
doctoral level counseling students, counselor educators, and
professional counselors who are committed to research and service
through the counseling profession.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce chapter is recognized as Epsilon Tau.
Joining our local chapter is a great opportunity to get to know your
professional peers and to support the community. Additionally, joining
and serving as one of our officers reflects your duty to the
organization, the university and helps meet the residency requirements
for doctoral students.

To join, each candidate must: 1) complete at least one full time
semester of a CACREP or CORE accredited program. 2) maintain a GPA of
3.5 or better. 3) Pay Chapter yearly dues of $15.00.  and 4) Pay
National yearly dues of $35.00.

As incoming president and vice president, Fred Fuentes and Richard
Johnson would like to extend our personal welcome to all current and
future Chi Sigma Iota-Epsilon Tau members. As we prepare for the Fall
2009 semester, we are asking for participation from all available CSI
members.  CSI cannot be successful without the assistance and mentorship
of previous members and future leaders.  Previous CSI leaders have
worked hard to establish an excellent organization that continues to
provide assistance to its current, past and future members!

We will have one meeting this semester in Mesquite and one meeting in
Greenville. Meetings will be conducted with consideration of everyone's
work and school schedules. Some of the ideas that we have discussed
include creating a quarterly newsletter that discusses community
resources, member profiles and opportunities to submit articles. We also
hope to provide at least one of our members with a paid conference
scholarship to TCA in 2009 or ACA in 2010! Details will be shared at our
first meeting in the Mesquite Metroplex, Saturday, Sept 12th at 11:30am.
