Dear TAMU-C Students: 

 

Welcome, or welcome back for you returners, to Texas A&M
University-Commerce!  The Student Health Services Center (SHS) is
located at the back of campus on the corner of Lee and Monroe Street in
Henderson Hall (Parking Lot J).  SHS is staffed with a Physician's
Assistant, Nurse Practitioner and other professionals to assist you with
routine and acute medical problems.  As a registered student of TAMU-C,
you are able to access the SHS as often as needed for sickness, injury
or routine medical exams.  While doctor visits are free, there are
charges for lab tests, x-rays, and some procedures.  Appointments are
necessary for most visits, but if you are seriously ill, you can come to
SHS and you will be seen as soon as possible.  Call in advance to
schedule your appointment at 903-886-5853.  We are open Monday through
Friday from 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m., with night clinic hours on Thursday
from 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m.

 

The SHS does not accept private insurance.  However, in many cases it is
still more convenient and less expensive to obtain healthcare at SHS.
You can submit charges incurred at the SHS to your private insurance
company for consideration of reimbursement.  

 

We take medical confidentiality seriously at the Student Health Center
and, as you may know, we are prevented by law from releasing any medical
information to parents of non-minor students without the student's
consent.  All staff is HIPAA compliant and trained on federal laws that
govern medical records security and patient confidentiality issues.  Be
assured that your medical records are secure and confidential and cannot
be released to others without your express permission. 

 

We hope this letter has been informative and that you take advantage of
our comprehensive health care services. The SHS staff wishes you much
