Subject: [Faculty & Staff] FW: Local History: Two Panels during the
CommerceWeek on Writing

In Rethinking Home: A Case for Writing Local History (University of
California P, 2002), Joseph Amato argues, "All history is local" (191).
He goes on to make a compelling case for the role of storytelling in
capturing and sharing this important history.

To that end, we are thrilled to bring you two panels about our own local
history.

The first (Tuesday, "Writing Local History") is an informative panel of
local historians, a local author sharing from her memoirs, and a Texas
novelist writing about Texas life.

The second (Wednesday, "Norris Community Project") offers an in-depth
portrait of the Norris Community, a section of Commerce traditionally
left out of local history projects but certainly informing this one.

Both events will take place in the Gee Library, First Floor, beginning
at 1:00 on both 10/20 and 10/21.

for additional details about these and other events taking place during
the Commerce Week on Writing.
