Peer Mentor Scholarship Opportunity

What is a Peer Mentor?

University College Peer Mentors work in an auxiliary and support
capacity with the UCs Success Coaches, the front line in the
University's effort to support and encourage entering first-year and
transfer students in their transition to A&M-Commerce. Peer Mentors
meet, greet, and gather necessary information from students visiting
with the Success Coaches to help the SCs do their work more effectively.
Peer Mentors will also help guide students after their SC appointments
to either their next stop in the admissions/enrollment process or to
make sure that their questions have been answered and needs met. During
the long semesters, Peer Mentors will help promote campus awareness of
the SCs, their services, and also the importance of early and informed
advisement and registration. There will be five Peer Mentors selected
each year.

What are the qualifications?

University College Peer Mentors must have a minimum over all GPA of a
2.75. They should be self-starters who know the University well. They
should be willing to learn from training and supervision, but at the
same time know when to show initiative. Peer Mentors need to be
examples of success in University life who are also able to connect well
with others. Peer Mentors are selected for Summer-Fall terms each year,
and students may reapply each year for the five positions. They must be
either a rising sophomore, junior or senior student at A&M-Commerce.

What are the benefits?

University College Peer Mentors receive a $500 per semester academic
