The India Student Association will host the 4th Annual Diwali Nite
celebration this Friday, October 24, in the American Ballroom. The
event which is also called the Festival of Lights, will begin at 7:00
and will consist of numerous songs and dances from India. There will
also be a fashion show. During intermission traditional India sweets
will be served. The main event will be followed by a disco. The event
is free to all and is suitable for children.
Diwali is one of the most important celebrations in India and is
celebrated by Hindus who decorate their homes with small, earthen
oil-fed lamps called "diyas". The event welcomes Laxmi, the goddess of
wealth and prosperity into their homes. The term Diwali is the short
form of the Sanskrit term "Deepvali" a conjugation of terms "deep"
(light) and "avail" (row).
Please come help the Indian students on our campus celebrate a very
important festival from India!
