[Students] 4/18 ATHLETICS: A&M-Commerce Host All-Sports Banquet

The athletic department at Texas A&M University-Commerce hosted its annual
All-Sports Banquet on Tuesday night to honor its senior student-athletes and
student trainers as well as to present awards to its teams and the athletic
trainers.

Darron Sheppard was presented the Dr. Jesse Hawthorne Award for the top male
student-athlete on the basis of athletic ability, leadership, scholarship
and service.

Andra Bickel was presented the Lib Huggins Award for the most outstanding
female student-athlete on the basis of competitive spirit, sportsmanship,
athletic ability and contributions to women's athletics.

A&M-Commerce men's basketball head coach Sam Walker announced the
recognition of Scooby Johnson as its Most Outstanding Student-Athlete and
Leonard Bishop, Jr. as the recipient of the Terry Allen Award.

Lions women's basketball head coach Denny Downing announced the selection of
Britney Jordan as the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete and Katedria Mosley
as the recipient of the Susie Knause Memorial Heart Award.

Senior Casey Warren was selected as the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete for
the cheerleading squad under the direction of Kelly Daily.

Sophomore Tyler Tyndell was announced as the Men's Cross Country Most
Outstanding Student-Athlete and freshman Kate Donovan was selected as
the Women's Cross Country Most Outstanding Student-Athlete by track and
field/cross country head coach Rich Lawrence. Darron Sheppard and Leonard
Jackson were selected as the co-Most Outstanding Men's Track and Field
Student-Athletes. Andra Bickel was selected as the Carolyn Burt Most
Outstanding Women's Track and Field Student-Athlete.

On the football team, Garnet Smith was selected as the recipient of the
Bobby Fox Award and Darron Sheppard was named as the honoree for the Ernest
Hawkins Award. JaMichael Palmer was chosen as the winner of the J.V. Sikes
Award.

In golf, junior Pinkey Hartline earned the Boley Crawford Award and
sophomore Heather Pantalion was presented the Dr. Margo Harbison Award for
both their efforts on and off the course.

Sophomore Meagan Lasley was selected as the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete
for women's soccer. Senior Colleen Favaro was presented the Most Outstanding
Student-Athlete for volleyball.

Senior John Hill was recognized for earning the Delmer Brown Scholarship
Award for student athletic trainers.

Three new awards were added to the banquet to recognize academic success.
Junior Anthony Tosie from track and field and cross country was honored for
having the top men's grade-point average and sophomore Lacy Alexander from
women's soccer was honored for having the top women's grade-point average.

To culminate the banquet, the seniors from athletic training and the sports
were presented with plaques and a special photo montage.
