[Students] Safety Alert for A&M-Commerce

[Joan Lawrence]

On October 17, 2007 at around 3:35 PM, a purse was stolen around the Library
on the campus of Texas A&M-Commerce. The suspect took the purse from an
outdoor table and ran from the area in a northerly direction.

The victim described the suspect as a black male wearing jeans and a grey
hooded sweatshirt. His shirt was described as a blue and yellow jersey with
an unknown number on it. There were no injuries in this incident, and the
crime is not classified as a robbery.

Members of the university community are urged to use extra vigilance while
walking at night. When possible, try to stick to well-lit areas and walk
with a friend. Be aware of where our blue-light emergency phones are
located. Consider purchasing a whistle or some other device that makes loud
noise. If you carry a cell phone, consider programming 903-886-5111 into a
hot key. This is an emergency number set up by the UPD for cellular phones
while you are on campus. While off campus, or on a wired phone, dial 911.

The University Police Department urges anyone with information about this or
any other crime to contact Sgt. Kyle Lowe at 903-886-5873.
