A&M-Commerce employees and students:
Once again we need to call on you to help with relief efforts for hurricane
evacuees - but this time it's for the Rita victims. We currently have
approximately 60 evacuees staying at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and the
Holiday Lodge Motel. They are evacuees from the Beaumont and Port Arthur
areas which took the direct hit of hurricane Rita. Many of the homes have
been flooded or destroyed. Also, they have been told it may take up to
three weeks or longer to restore electricity to some areas. Therefore,
they may be here for a while.
We need donations of water, soft drinks, fruit and snacks and anything else
you can offer to help with while they stay here. But please do not bring
any clothing - we still have plenty of clothing left over from hurricane
Katrina. The evacuees are currently being served meals during the day by
different organizations; however, they need water and drinks. Please take
donations to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel.
Your generous outpouring of donations during Katrina was really appreciated
by the evacuees and also by those coordinating the relief efforts. None of
it could have been done without your generosity. Thanks for being so
caring and willing to help.
Thanks,
