[Students] Conflict in Sudan...Genocide in the Making???

[Joan Lawrence]

To the members of the TAMU-Commerce community:

On Wednesday, October 19, 2005, Whitley Hall in association with Pi Sigma
Alpha (The National Political Science Honor Society) will be hosting the
seminar "Conflict in Sudan...Genocide in the Making???" The program promises

to be a very informative one, and will present information regarding what
acts need to be present to label an event as GENOCIDE. The ongoing conflict
in Sudan will also be discussed in detail.

I encourage each of you to attend. Knowledge is the key to letting people
become aware of the many atrocities pitted out against the poor and
brutalized in our world.

The international community sat by and watched the Rwandan genocide unfold
in 1994. Over 800,000 people were killed. The question we need to examine
is how long will the international community stand by and let the people of
Darfur suffer? Already in Darfur the number of the dead has surpassed
70,000.

Your attendance at the seminar will help you to play your part in knowing
first hand the atrocities taking place in Darfur, and what world leaders are

doing, or not doing to solve the problem.

I look forward to seeing you at the program. The program date is Wednesday,
October 19, 2005. The event will begin at 6:00 pm and will be held in the
Whitley Hall Lobby.

Sincerely,

Dimitri Lyon and Jetmir Bakija
