[Students] William A Owens Centennial Celebration

On November 9, 2005, Texas A&M University-Commerce and Paris Junior College
will host the centennial celebration of nationally recognized folklorist and
novelist William A. Owens with programs and a dinner. Owens attended the
University in 1924-25. He died in 1990. Faculty and students are invited to
attend various programs of the celebration.
An academic panel of scholars and writers looking at Owens Texas literary
contributions will be held from
9:30 am - 12:00 pm in the Bluebonnet Room in the MSC.
Friends and colleagues including Dr. Charles Linck and Dr. Francis Abernathy
will recollect Owens's life
from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm in the Bluebonnet Room in the MSC.
Dr. Hanners will direct a dramatic performance based on one of Owens's
novels at 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm in the little
theatre in the performing arts building.
A reception will be held in the Leadership Lounge in the MSC from 5:30 pm -
6:00 pm.
The University will host a dinner in the Heritage Room in the MSC starting
at 6:00 pm with Dr. Don Graham keynoter
on "Picking cotton, Owens and me: A Texas literary tradition."
The dinner has been sold out.
