Below I have written the goals I have for SPS, based on discussions I have
had with some students. Please take a look and consider if these goals
align with what you want to see from SPS. I have writtne the contributors
below as well!
The Society of Physics Students was established to help undergraduate
physics students develop research skills, establish network connections,
and improve their soft skills and technical skills. My goal as President
will be to optimize the opportunities physics students have to develop
themselves into professional physicists. In pursuit of these goals I would
like to outline the goals over the next semester/year as president.
*Mission*
· Create opportunities for physics students to reach their individual
goals.
· Building a foundation for physics students to grow and become
leaders in our community
*Outreach Goals:*
1. Establish weekly homework helping nights for Physics 1 and 2.
Encouraging upper-level physics students to collaborate on their own
problems and mentor younger students. Continue Bi-weekly game nights.
2. Creating more connections with other STEM departments
*Goals for Current Students:*
3. Organizing trips to potential future employers, graduate schools,
and research fairs. Fundraising to help students reduce out-of-pocket costs
for these events
4. Help Students prepare for research conferences, offering student
feedback on future presentations to develop communication and speaking
skills. Weekly/Monthly set aside time
5. Improving Quality of Peer-Learning Center dependent on student
fundraising
a. Mini-Food pantry for students who need it (cheap noodles and
things for students who need them)
b. Updating Textbooks
By codifying these goals, we hope to ensure accountability for any
potential SPS officers. Regardless of the election, we hope SPS pursue
these goals.
These goals were developed in collaboration with
