<div>Monday, June 11</div>  <div>&nbsp;</div>  <div>This morning, I helped take the chemical inventory in Dr. Starnes' lab and helped set up a column chromatography to separate a molecule with a nitro group at the ortho position from the same molecule with the only difference being a nitro group at the meta position.&nbsp; We used silica and a 1:2 hexane/ethyl acetate&nbsp;mixture to create the&nbsp;slurry for the column chromatography.&nbsp; After lunch, we continued inventory and&nbsp;began separation&nbsp;in&nbsp;the cloumn.&nbsp; I helped test the fractions&nbsp;from the column&nbsp;using TLC plates.&nbsp; While this was going on, we set up our lab for when we begin our reactions later.&nbsp; We eventually got separation from the column, collected more samples, and then left for the day.</div>
