June 9th
Today is a Monday, and Monday's are hard. My daughter was up sick last
night and I am tired today. In the lab we have tried some new samples and
new conditions on the HPLC and we have high hopes for them for tomorrow. I
have been enjoying riding my bike around campus with my daughter. The
kitchen staff in the cafeteria gave us some old bread and we fed the ducks,
it was alot of fun. I am looking forward to our field trip this week, I
don't know where we are going, but I think it will be fun.

We made some progress today! We reproduced some good data on the HPLC,
yeah! It was very exciting. We have worked so hard to identify the problem
we were having and to figure out a solution. I am really enjoying this
research. It is like working on a puzzle. I really like the group I am in
too. We get along very well together. After work this evening we went to
the rec center and did rock climbing. It was really cool. I am going to
try to go again on my lunch break tomorrow. This program really seems like
a job to me, I am in the lab from 8am to 5pm, every day with an hour for
lunch. I am glad that I enjoy it. If not, it would be a long summer. The
campus is great for my daughter too, we play on the playground by family
housing every evening. We are planning to go see a planetarium show this
Friday. The Children's Learning Center on campus is great too.

Today was a good day overall. We were able to reproduce data on the HPLC
four times. Unfortunately when we tried to collect the fractions
corresponding to the peaks that we were interested in, it was unsuccessful.
I am interested to see how we will try to fix the problem tomorrow. We saw
two presentations today. My group and Dr. Kostic's group gave presentations
on their respective reasearch projects. I was very impressed by both
presentations, they were easy to understand and informative. I think
Brandon, from our group, portrayed our work very well.

So far so good. I went rock climbing on my lunch break today, it was a
great exercise to do. I felt energized and ready to work afterwards,
instead of feeling full and sluggish. We ran several cleaning runs and test
runs of the HPLC today, to try to fix our issues. Our results were
unconclusive so far. Maybe tomorrow will look up, regarding research.

Today was no fun at all. We went on a field trip to Alcon Pharmeceuticals
in Fort Worth. I had a bad medical episode and had to be taken to the
clinic on site. I missed the whole field trip. I also have to miss half a
day of work next week to have medical tests done.
