<div class="">We would like to ask you to encourage undergraduate students at your institution who are completing their degrees in Physics to consider pursuing our NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduate (REU) program here at Kansas State University.</div>
<div class=""><font face="Times New Roman" size="3" class=""><span class="" style="font-size:12pt"> </span></font></div>
<div class="">Our department will host our program entitled Interactions of Matter, Light and Learning for 10 weeks next summer. We invite your students who have completed a course in modern physics to apply. To this end, we ask that you post the attached
poster for display in your department as you see fit.</div>
<div class="">Student participants will be involved with a variety of research projects at the leading edge of world-class research. For example, students will study the attosecond physics of electrons in matter; nanoparticle formation; nanoparticle materials;
materials and light scattering; biological physics; quantum and coherent control; neutrino oscillations; cosmology, atomic and molecular dynamics, using ultrafast lasers; and how students learn physics. Participants will have access to our state-of-the-art
facilities, such as the Kansas Light Source ultrafast high intensity laser. All students will be full participants in active research groups, and mentored by faculty recognized for their research and teaching abilities.</div>
<div class=""><font face="Times New Roman" size="3" class=""><span class="" style="font-size:12pt"> </span></font></div>
<div class="">Students selected to participate will receive a $5,450 stipend, partial travel expenses, and room and board, for a value of over $8,500. They will live on campus with students in this and other REU programs and will have access to all the usual
facilities at Kansas State: libraries, recreation centers, and so on.</div>
