Tldr; Make an appointment to talk to Dr. Williams about your spring courses some time this month.

Hello everyone,

The start of October means one thing -- that it is time to think about spring courses! Oh, and begging for candy while dressed as your favorite 19th century obscure physicist.

Anyway, the likely spring schedule for physics and astronomy courses can be found at this link:

https://appsprod.etamu.edu/Schedule/Schedule.aspx?Term=202720&Dept=PHAS

Although registration doesn't open until after the state fair closes, I would VERY STRONGLY encourage each and every one of you to come see me for a 15-20 minute advising discussion. I am the departmental advisor for all undergraduate physics majors, and these advising sessions are meant to be low-stress ways of making sure that we keep you on track to finish your degree on your preferred schedule, and to help you think about post-college plans and how we can best get your prepared for those plans.

DEPARTMENTAL ADVISING IS IMPORTANT, if for no other reason than many of our upper level classes are only taught every other year. If you miss taking one of these classes, your graduation could be delayed by a lot. But I know which classes are going to be taught when, and so I can help you navigate that schedule.

It's easy to get an advising appointment; you just need to email me with a suggestion of two or three potential times that would work for a meeting. I'll then email you back with a time that can work. If you don't want to email, you can stop by my office (STC 106, the department office) and just talk to me. Generally Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons are the best time for me, though I can make time in the mornings or on other afternoons -- it may just take a few iterations to find a time that would work.

Making an appointment helps to make sure that I am ready for our meeting; I just need a little time to look over what classes you've finished before we talk.

I look forward to chatting with you all!

Cheers,

Dr. Williams
