Tldr; Make an appointment to talk to Dr. Williams about fall classes!

Hi everyone,

Believe it or not, it is time to start thinking about fall classes (unless you are graduating).

Why now?

Because I (as department head and your departmental advisor) need to make sure that we are offering the classes that you need to stay on track to graduate, and to make sure that each class has enough students to make the Texas state Bean Counters auditors happy. And this needs to be done before we all scatter to the winds over the summer.

So, starting next week, I need each of you to make an appointment with me for a 15-20 minute advising session. I promise it is painless. We look at what physics / astronomy / math classes you have completed, what physics / astronomy / math classes you still need to graduate, and when you hope to graduate. We then come up with a plan and I suggest what physics / astronomy / math classes you should take so that you graduate on your schedule with the preparation you need for your future plans. We can also talk about other things on your mind in these meetings if you want.

You will probably still need to meet with Kaitlin or Jacob at the advising center to make sure you are on track for your core classes and any second major or minor. But I know physics degrees better than they do, and I tend to know when various classes are coming up in our rotation, and I need to know what courses all y'all need.

So, starting Monday, please schedule a time to meet with me! My office hours are: Tuesday & Thursday 10-11, Wednesday 1-2, and Friday 2-3 - feel free to just drop by then, though making an appointment during one of those times maybe a good idea to ensure nothing else has popped up. If none of those times work, we can make an appointment at another time. Just email me some days and times you are available.

The fall schedule of classes is posted at this link: https://appsprod.etamu.edu/Schedule/Schedule.aspx?Term=202680&Dept=PHAS Please note that rooms, instructors, and comments about book costs may change (the book costs are new and currently showing up incorrectly), but days and times are likely set. (Though if we find that one of our courses is conflicting with a course in math or another department that many of you need, we can look into changing dates and times.)

Cheers,
Dr. Williams
