[phas-undergrad] NEW Physics Career Skills Series - starting Tuesday at 5pm

[Kurtis Williams]

Good afternoon everyone,

The department is going to start an informal workshop series focused on physics-related career skills. These will be on occasional Tuesdays at 5pm in the Peer Learning Lab (student lounge).

We will have our first workshop on Tuesday, Sept 9 where the main topic of discussion will be: Graduate School
We'll cover topics such as:

  * Is grad school right for you?
  * How to find graduate programs
  * When and how to apply to grad programs
  * How to right compelling essays
  * How to get strong letters of recommendation
  * How to be a stronger grad school candidate
And whatever other questions pop up along the way!

Pizza will be provided. All physics students, both undergrad and grad students, are welcome! If you cannot come but are interested, let me know and I'll record the session. All faculty are welcome, too - your expertise is very helpful!

If you think you'll be coming, please enter your name in the following Google doc so we make sure to have enough food:

Future workshops will be held once or twice a month; sessions will include:

  * Internships and Summer Research Opportunities
  *   Resumes and CVs
  *   Marketing your skills
  *   How to network
Feel free to suggest other topics!

I hope to see you Tuesday!

Cheers,
Dr. Williams
