Hi everyone,

I hope your studying is going well! If you have time in the coming days and need a break from studying, I could use some help vetting solar eclipse glasses. Lydia has done an initial separation, but there is some detail work that needs to be done. Please focus on exam studying first!

In my lab (science 144, which I'll propped open until 5pm daily), there is a pile of bundled eclipse glasses, a list of safe manufacturers, and a box for finished bundles.

1. Each bundle needs to be unbundled and glasses checked for the manufacturer name (which should be on the inside of the ear flap).

2. If the manufacturer is NOT on the safe list, throw the pair of glasses away.

a. Most of the manufacturers will be on the Chinese list, but some may be on the North American list.

b. If no manufacturer is listed, throw the pair in the trash.

c. The distributer is not important; the final manufacturer is.

3. If the manufacturer IS on the safe list, then vet the glasses for safety:

                                          i. If there are any permanent creases on the lenses, throw the pair in the trash.

ii. If the cardboard is ripped, throw the pair in the trash.

iii. If the glasses or lenses are exceptionally dirty or greasy, throw the pair in the trash.

iv. Look through the glasses at the fluorescent lights. If you see any light come through at all, throw the pair in the trash.

                                        v. IF IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT.

4. Bundle vetted glasses in packs of 50 and put in the box for finished glasses.

Thanks for any time and effort you can spare! Again, take care of your studies and classes first.

I'll post these instructions in the lab.
