Good Morning Dr. Bertulani,
We have been in discussions with the NNSA labs about fellowship opportunities for graduate students. Our initial topics focused on nuclear safeguards and security. However, they are also very interested in topics across the board, just as they were with the LANL faculty fellowships.

To that end, I am circulating this attached flyer to a limited group of faculty outside of the safeguards and security topics. I am asking that you pass it along to your graduate students for their input back to Julia Pierko or myself. The flyer explains that we are seeking to understand the level of graduate student interest in Opportunity 2, fellowships with LANL. (Opportunity 1 is the safeguards/security topic – they’re welcome to respond to this topic as applicable).

For your students who respond, we’ll work with you and LANL to engage a LANL PI and move to the next step of determining support for a fellowship and a subsequent application. This process is outside of any existing fellowship opportunities, so those students who may have already applied for an internship or fellowship are still encouraged to respond to this solicitation of interest. Please note the determination is completely up to LANL so it may take some time for a determination to be made but we believe could be a great opportunity.

I would appreciate you circulating this flyer and encouraging your students to respond by January 22nd. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.
