<div class="">Now is the season to be applying for summer intern programs.  The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds Research Experiences for Undergraduate (REU) programs in physics and astronomy (and biology and chemistry and engineering …).</div>

<div class="">These are *fantastic* opportunities for students to experience firsthand real research under the mentorship of a faculty mentor..  If you are thinking of pursuing a doctorate degree, I strongly encourage you to apply for REU programs so you can
 try out the life of a researcher for the summer.  </div>
