Happy New Year everyone!
You've probably heard that winter weather is likely to hit the area on Thursday and Friday. Although no university closure has been announced yet, please prepare as if the university will be closed. To wit:
* If there is a weather closure, only specific personnel are permitted on campus. This likely means you will likely not be allowed (and should not attempt) to be on a closure day - you know if you are an exception.
* I have given Lydia permission to work from home one or both days even if campus is open, so assume the physics office will be closed. (Faculty, this means you should print start-of-term syllabi and other handouts by end of business tomorrow.) If you have any paperwork or electronic forms due before Monday, I'd also encourage you to get it done by the end of the day on Wednesday.
* Students, you will not be permitted in the building for study or research if the university closes due to weather. I would advise against starting any experiments that would require your attention Thursday or Friday.
* Students in Commerce, if you have any cold-relate problems that arise, such as a loss of heat in your apartments or lack of food due to electricity loss, please feel free to contact me by email or phone (408-768-8880) anytime and I will happily find you assistance.
* In any case, the weather forecast strongly suggests that we will be open and start classes as normal on Monday.
Stay safe and warm!
Cheers,
Dr. Williams
