Physicists Featured in SPS/AIP
1. Fall 2024 issue of the SPS Observer on careers (time-sensitive)
We are seeking people with physics or astronomy backgrounds in any career who would like to share their career journey and insights with undergrads by writing a brief article or being interviewed for one. This issue has an extra-wide reach, as it will go to all Physics Today subscribers and Society of Physics Students members. To express interest, people may complete this interest form<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__9w8z5.r.sp1-2Dbrevo.net_mk_cl_f_sh_SMK1E8tHeG1TikQTJagyn0A8s901_a98-2DgZ7GMFiY&d=DwMFaQ&c=oqyuZuih6ykib6aKiBq22_bich4AVfYGoLertJN0bEc&r=WXSrJJqTOlxfRLgVSSO2AY0ELgiA_GKOAZaV7N4RJAA&m=F5vPaJ_5E2qFMch-O0gDhcefUG-RE3DKA68Hh-kTXOAFKfaoMLjhiRHv4FkR23h6&s=YynbLRhJlHenxCJSFlz3L473eK7yBrCwPe3mTHTwQvs&e=> by March 20.
2. Hidden Physicists and Astronomers
"Hidden physicists and astronomers" are people with a physics or astronomy background who are not professors. They may be entrepreneurs (in STEM or otherwise), writers, doctors, engineers, etc. By profiling them in Radiations, we aim to highlight the amazing careers such a background can support. People willing to be featured can let us know by answering some questions using the submission form, and then we'll follow up about profiling them in Radiations magazine. You can also suggest a person to feature by emailing Kendra Redmond(kredmondstories at gmail.com<mailto:kredmondstories at gmail.com>) directly or sps at aip.org<mailto:sps at aip.org> anytime.
We also have regular profiles and career stories in our publications (see below), and we appreciate suggestions and self-nominations. We are also open to suggestions for features and letters to the editor.
Please reach out to Kendra Redmond (kredmondstories at gmail.com<mailto:kredmondstories at gmail.com>) or at sps at aip.org<mailto:sps at aip.org> with ideas and suggestions.

Funding for Accelerated, Inclusive Research
Deadline for pre-applications (required):
April 23, 2024 5:00 PM ET
Deadline for applications:
July 16, 2024 11:59 PM ET
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science (SC) is announcing that $35 million is available to support fundamental research in all fields supported by SC to build research capacity at institutions historically underrepresented in the SC portfolio, specifically non-R1 emerging research institutions (ERIs) and non-R1 minority serving institutions (MSIs).
This funding opportunity announcement aims to build research capacity through mutually beneficial relationships between applicants and DOE national laboratories, SC scientific user facilities, or R1 MSI/ERIs. Capacity building is interpreted broadly to include both personnel expertise and infrastructure and is expected to be durable, contributing over time toward sustained research strength at the lead institution.
