Dear grads,
I am grateful for the time and good conversations you have offered to our potential new faculty this far. I realize not everyone can make these odd times, so no worries if you haven’t been able to come!
Tomorrow (Tuesday) we have our final job candidate for now, Dr. Vinicius Placco. If you can make the effort one more time I’d appreciate it.
If you have any comments or concerns about any of the candidates, please let me know either by email or in writing. I will keep your names confidential, and any anonymizes opinions would only be shared with the hiring committee (Will, Bao-An, Cheri, Kent and myself).
Most useful to us are any concerns or red flags you may have noticed. Is there a reason you would be reluctant to work or learn from one of the candidates (other than whether your research interests match)? Any concerning traits?
For example, when I was a grad student we were able to get one faculty candidate high on the faculty‘s list vetoed because he called grad students “data slaves” and said he would only work with grads who were smart enough to work with him.
Thanks again!
Kurtis
