 written. I think 1-2 for tenure to associate, and at least 2 for promotion to full. However, it should be made clear that candidates/departments shouldn’t penalize a lack of response about a letter request against the candidate since that lack of response
 could be indicative of many things, such as letter requests over summer months when many faculty might not be working."</span><br>
