[phas-faculty_staff_others] D2L Accessibility Reminder and in-building help available Wednesday

[Kurtis Williams]

Happy Monday, everyone,

This is a reminder that all D2L course shells need to have accessibility scores above 90% by April 24th. This is a federal law and so needs to be followed. Please work a little bit every day between now and then to make sure your scores are at or above 90%. I'm still not there myself, but I'm making process.

If you need help with increasing accessibility scores, or if have questions about how to check your accessibility, the relevant laws, or the like, Sam Bachert (the campus lead on accessibility) will be stationed in room 103 all day on Wednesday (except during Bao-An's classes noon-1 and 2-3). Bring your laptop by the room and Sam will help you. He's very friendly and willing to help.

Final note: I still have not been able to get LaTeX PDFs that include equations to meet accessibility standards; unfortunately Sam cannot help with that. If you are not as lazy as I am, you can add alt text for every equation, or there are HTML translators that use MathJax. The LaTeX community is working on accessibility issues.

Cheers,
Kurtis
