Dear Department Chairs,

Happy New Year 2025! We would greatly appreciate it if you would please forward this email to your faculty and undergraduate students.

We are pleased to announce that the UT Austin Astronomy NSF REU Program<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/astronomy.utexas.edu/research/ut-astronomy-reu-assure-program__;!!KwNVnqRv!Dj4QgF8_CXrOSCRqT6mu97Faa__vQ8w9bv8YZ1BM2nXKHfiJCSjp59gVaRDQwHS0iB6wV06JzgNl82cMWt0$> ”Frontier Research and Training in Astronomy for the 21st Century” will run in Summer 2025 for ten weeks from Saturday May 24 to Saturday August 2. This is the seventh summer of our NSF REU program and we look forward to welcoming a diverse, motivated, high-achieving group of eight scholars. The application portal is now open and applications are due by February 10/2025.

For information on our NSF REU program and instructions on how to apply, please see the link below: https://astronomy.utexas.edu/research/student-research-opportunities/ut-austin-astronomy-nsf-reu-program/<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/astronomy.utexas.edu/research/student-research-opportunities/ut-austin-astronomy-nsf-reu-program/__;!!KwNVnqRv!Dj4QgF8_CXrOSCRqT6mu97Faa__vQ8w9bv8YZ1BM2nXKHfiJCSjp59gVaRDQwHS0iB6wV06JzgNlQ6Xx5ec$>

We especially encourage applications from students who are from institutions with limited research opportunities or/and are from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in STEM (e.g., first-generation college students, Pell grant recipients, students with disabilities, U.S. veterans, gender and racial/ethnic minorities).

Our REU program provides research opportunities, a three-tiered holistic mentoring system, and professional development in a supportive, inclusive, and cutting-edge research environment. The program leverages a synergistic collaboration between the UT Austin Astronomy Department<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/astronomy.utexas.edu/__;!!KwNVnqRv!Dj4QgF8_CXrOSCRqT6mu97Faa__vQ8w9bv8YZ1BM2nXKHfiJCSjp59gVaRDQwHS0iB6wV06JzgNlJSFyEE0$>, McDonald Observatory<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/mcdonald.utexas.edu/__;!!KwNVnqRv!Dj4QgF8_CXrOSCRqT6mu97Faa__vQ8w9bv8YZ1BM2nXKHfiJCSjp59gVaRDQwHS0iB6wV06JzgNlNieEUZ0$>, the Texas Advanced Computing Center<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.tacc.utexas.edu/__;!!KwNVnqRv!Dj4QgF8_CXrOSCRqT6mu97Faa__vQ8w9bv8YZ1BM2nXKHfiJCSjp59gVaRDQwHS0iB6wV06JzgNl5OWXLNg$>, and the College of Natural Sciences<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/cns.utexas.edu/__;!!KwNVnqRv!Dj4QgF8_CXrOSCRqT6mu97Faa__vQ8w9bv8YZ1BM2nXKHfiJCSjp59gVaRDQwHS0iB6wV06JzgNlepcecMY$>.

If you have any questions, please contact our UT Astronomy Department NSF REU coordinator Jennifer Pratt (utastro_reu at utlists.utexas.edu<mailto:utastro_reu at utlists.utexas.edu>) or/and the PI and director (Professor Shardha Jogee; sj at astro.as.utexas.edu<mailto:sj at astro.as.utexas.edu>).
