[phas-faculty_staff_others] Predatory journals

I agree with Carlos' point.

A few years ago, I published a paper in an MDPI journal with my students and have participated as a reviewer.
MDPI was acceptable until a few years ago; however, they started accepting manuscripts that had received negative review comments, and they pushed reviewers to review manuscripts in a short time (1 week).
I think MDPI is primarily motivated by profit rather than contributing scientifically to the society.

Last year I informed them that I no longer participate in as a reviewer in MDPI journals.

As Carlos said, the upper academic administrators should announce this issue to all of the faculty members.

Thanks,

Heungman

Subject: [phas-faculty_staff_others] Predatory journals

Hello,

during the faculty assembly someone mentioned proudly a faculty who became editor of "Frontiers of …”

Please take a minute to read this report in Nature:

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-02553-1

University administrators should take this serious, as one puts scarce funds, time and effort in an activity of zero (or detrimental) value.

Google “list of predatory journals” and do a 10 minutes research before accepting invitations for editorial boards. You surely get invitations almost every week. One example of the google search:
