Hello Students,
welcome to course Fall 2024 Current Topics in Physics and Astronomy (Colloquium).
The colloquium series will start on September 26 with Prof. Barbara Endl (Baylor University). You can check the past and future list of speakers in this webpage
https://sites.google.com/view/pha-tamuc-colloquium/phas-tamuc-colloquium<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__sites.google.com_view_pha-2Dtamuc-2Dcolloquium_phas-2Dtamuc-2Dcolloquium&d=DwMBaQ&c=oqyuZuih6ykib6aKiBq22_bich4AVfYGoLertJN0bEc&r=WXSrJJqTOlxfRLgVSSO2AY0ELgiA_GKOAZaV7N4RJAA&m=CPK8d2P5SIRdwEptSg-3gxLP4q29Tnbpro-GasaGLoRlazt1kcWAXXifBptMCj5O&s=Y7GY3136Rs-CEBjD_LYMx6GwZ1LG3euXCg_ZZs08W-E&e=>
There are simple tasks you need to fulfill to pass this course:
1- Be present in the colloquium. There will be a presence list. Do not forget to sign in. More than 2 absences without due (medical, etc) justification will be considered an "F".
2- If you ask questions, I will be taking notice, and give you extra-points. Participation is key. There are no stupid questions, as long as they refer to the speakers topic. Don't be shy and communicate.
3- You will need to present a summary of each talk. No less than 200 words per talk. Before the summary write down the speakers name, title, and date. Then proceed with a description of what did you learn from the talk. Use your own words. I will be checking for copied content. This will be graded, too. Place all summaries together, one after another in a single PDF document and send me by email before the start of the finals week. I suggest you write your summary of each talk right after it and store it, so that you do not forget and leave writing to the last minute.
4- Try to benefit from the visitor's presence in our campus. You might be also interested in asking questions directly to the speaker after the talk finishes. If you like the topic, you might end up following a career related to it somehow. The speakers come from universities that have more resources than ours, and you could end up working with them in the future.
5- All things said, there is a code of conduct that I am sure all of you know, such as respect for your colleagues, good manners, patience, etc. Just be nice, as I know you are.
6- Compliments to me, of course. Complaints to our Department Head or to Mrs. Lydia Dale.
Thanks,
--
