On the free account, you can share the link to any number of co-authors who can then edit the file. Most of the time, this is fine for our work,
The upgraded account allows >1 “collaborator,” which keeps track of who made which changes and reject changes you don’t like (such as if somebody accidentally erased several sentences without noticing or made a purposeful change that needs reverting), access to previous versions, and syncing to Dropbox so you can edit offline. There are some other features that I wouldn’t use but some of the faculty in other departments might, including integration with Github and Mendelay.
Y’all's comments are what I’m looking for, so I appreciate them!

>> I was wondering how many of you use Overleaf and either have an upgraded subscription or might be interested in one. If there is enough interest in the department, I’ll also ask around the College of Science and see if we might be able to convince the college (or better yet the university/library) to look into an institutional license.

>> So, if you think you’d be interested, please just send me a short email.

Once my current student gets her thesis formatting approved I’ll send it to the grad school, but let me know if you want a beta test copy in the meantime. (If we get an institutional overleaf account, overleaf would have it stored and automatically load it for any student to use….)
