Morgan,

That information is very good. Please keep it in your records. The PRL/RMP styles are very different from other styles adopted in other societies such as ACS.

Physics students are recommended to follow the styles developed by our physics community if they want to follow an academic career.

Carlos

>I checked the organization's website and it states that authors should use the "PRL/PR Style and Notation Guide or RMP's Style Guide" for research. The website provides links to the guides so students can access them electronically, but I will talk to Dr. Schroeder to see if we can also print and bind copies of each to add to the collection. The links are provided below if you would like your students to use them.

>>Graduate Faculty,
>>Here are some updates from OTDS:
>>·
>>Dr. Jennifer L. Schroeder is supervising OTDS at this time. If you have
>>any questions or concerns regarding a student or OTDS process, please feel free to contact either myself or Dr. Schroeder.
>>·
>>OTDS recently purchased copies of the APA style manual (6th edition),
>>the MLA style manual (8th edition), and the ACS style manual (3rd
>>edition) and added them to the reserve collection at the library. Any student completing a thesis or dissertation is welcome to go to the library and use the manuals to assist with their writing. If your students use a manual that is not currently on reserve but you think they would benefit from having it available, please let us know and we will be happy to add it to the collection.
>>
>>·
>>OTDS hired a consultant to review and suggest changes for our website.
>>We are trying to make our website better organized and user-friendly, so if during this semester you have difficulty locating information or if one of the links on the site is broken, please let us know and we will be happy to provide you with whatever you need.
>>
>>·
>>Our goal for this semester is to be as helpful as possible. We are
>>working on different resources and projects to achieve that goal, but if you have any ideas or concerns that you would like to address, please feel free to contact myself of Dr. Schroeder and we will see what solutions we can offer.
>>
>>Included in this email are the OTDS submission deadlines for Fall 2017
>>and Spring 2018. All students currently enrolled in 518 and 718 have received this information as well. If you have any students who you know are not currently registered in 518 or 718 this semester, but could still benefit from this information, please forward this along to them:

>>DISSERTATION CHAIRS:
>>
>>Please remember that Spring 2017 saw a change in the role of the
>>Graduate Representative; Grad Reps now attend the proposal defense, not the final defense. Several faculty members worked with OTDS to develop rubrics that the Grad Reps will use to evaluate the students’ proposals. Below is the process currently in use:
>>·
>>When students submit their Schedule Forms to Vicky Turner to schedule
>>their dissertation proposal defense, they will attach a copy of their
>>proposal (OTDS will not review this proposal; the document will be used only to 1. assign a Grad Rep who is knowledgeable in the proposed methods and 2. provide a copy of the proposal to the Grad Rep so he or she will have plenty of time to read the proposal and make suggestions).
>>·
>>Prior to the proposal defense, the Grad Rep will read the student’s
>>proposal and fill out the appropriate rubric (appropriateness is based on the methods of the proposed study) to provide the student with detailed feedback. The rubrics are available for student and advisor use on the OTDS website (http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/Thesis%20and%20Dissertation%20Services/graduate%20rep%20rubrics.aspx).
>>
>>·
>>If the rubric indicates the student has areas that need improvement,
>>OTDS will forward the rubric to the dissertation chair so that the chair and the student can make necessary revisions prior to submitting to OTDS.
>>
>>Thank you for all you do and please feel free to contact myself or Dr. Schroeder with any questions you may have.
