FYI, and remember that the university has an Undergraduate Travel Grant Program. The Department may also be able to help fund your travel, if you have research results to present.

Dear Colleague,
Louisiana State University is very pleased to host one of eight APS-sponsored Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics in January 2014. The application site is now open http://www.phys.lsu.edu/cuwip/index.html and closes November 1, 2013. We ask that you advertise the conference among your physics majors (please forward this message to all your physics majors), encourage them to apply, and help support them to attend if they are accepted to the conference.
The conference will start with a welcome reception Friday afternoon, January 17, 2014, and end Sunday afternoon, January 19. The conference will be hosted jointly with sister conferences at Florida State U., Pennsylvania State U., Stony Brook U., U. of California at Berkeley, U. of Chicago, U. of Maryland, and U. of Utah. The keynote presentation will be given by Debra Fisher, an internationally recognized astronomer at Yale University, and will be webcast to all eight regional conferences.
The conference at LSU will bring together successful female physicists and approximately 100 undergraduate women in physics to highlight career opportunities for, and the contributions of, women in physics. The meeting will provide ample opportunities for interacting with fellow physicists. The conference will include the following activities:
1. presentations by professional physicists on their cutting edge research and personal career paths;
2. panels featuring career opportunities inside and outside academia;
3. panels offering guidance on how to get involved in summer research, the graduate school application process, and preparing for and applying for jobs in industry;
4. an opportunity for undergraduate attendees to present their research in a poster session and/or oral presentation;
5. a tour of the LIGO facility, the CAMD synchrotron facility and the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, and local laboratories on the LSU campus;
6. resources from national physics-related societies.
Lodging and meals will be provided for participants who are accepted to the conference. In the past we have been able to ensure that most students had travel support either through their department or through the conference. Physics departments are strongly encouraged to provide support for travel for their own students so that we can provide support where the need is greatest. Considering that the number of applicants has risen sharply in recent years, departmental support is crucial so that we can accept the largest number of students.
We are attaching a poster, which we hope you will post in a prominent place. Please also circulate this announcement to students in your department.
More information on the LSU CUWiP conference can be found on our website: http://www.phys.lsu.edu/cuwip/index.html. Websites for the other conference sites are given on the APS page at http://www.aps.org/programs/women/workshops/cuwip.cfm The national application site is hosted by the APS and is now open: http://www.aps.org/programs/women/workshops/cuwipapp.cfm The deadline for applications is November 1, 2013.
Please send any questions on the LSU conference to Mette Gaarde, gaarde at phys.lsu.edu, 225-578-0889.
This conference series has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and local hosting institutions, and is sponsored by the American Physical Society.
Thank you for helping publicize the Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics.
