Dr Wood,
The company I work for, Zonge International (http://www.zonge.com), is a geophysical exploration/geophysical equipment manufacturing company located in Tucson, Arizona. The company is one of the few US geophysical companies that specialize in geophysical methods other than seismic, the standard for the oil and gas business. Zonge’s mainstay is electrical and electromagnetic geophysical methods used primarily for base metal mineral deposit exploration, environmental work, and geothermal. We anticipate openings in the Tucson office for one or two geophysicists in the next year. We have found that physics students with an interest in geology quite often do as good or better than traditionally trained applied geophysics students, who often lean toward the seismic methods that the oil companies prefer.
We’re not big enough to send recruiters, but if you know of a physics student (BS or MS level) who you think might be interested in this kind of work, please let the student know. There is also the possibility for summer work.
