Dear all in Physics and Astronomy,
We do not meet this week Thursday. Instead, we have a YouTube presentation below.
PHYS-401/501 students must complete an assignment (submitting a summary report) on D2L when there is no in-person meeting on a week.

NIST Colloquium Series: Optics and Photonics, Essential for Our World by Alan Willner
* National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
The science and technology of light are essential to many applications that have transformed our society, and there is much promise that optics and photonics will remain at the forefront of the world’s innovations well into this century. Dr. Alan Willner’s talk highlights: (a) past breakthroughs, present advances and potential future growth in the science and technology of light, (b) the convergence of the International Year of Light, the Nobel Prizes based on light and various U.S. government initiatives in photonics, and (c) the role of measurement in harnessing the exquisite capabilities of high-frequency, coherent light for different industries.
